 What is water pollution?

Water pollution happens when toxic substances enter water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans and so on, getting dissolved in them, lying suspended in the water or depositing on the bed. This degrades the quality of water.
Not only does this spell disaster for aquatic ecosystems, the pollutants also seep through and reach the groundwater, which might end up in our households as contaminated water we use in our daily activities, including drinking.

How contaminated is the water in Barrancabermeja?

Several studies, such as the one established by the Lasartec laboratory, on the quality of the water in the Petroleum Port, indicate the presence of some substances, such as heavy metals: Arsenic, Barium, Calcium, Manganese, mercury, Sodium and total Iron. That generate serious impacts on the environment.
Environmentalists from Barrancabermeja have denounced on multiple occasions their concern about the quality of the water that reaches homes. Manifesting contamination in water sources, as has been confirmed by some studies, established by entities such as OCH and Calidad Hídrica.
One cause of pollution is associated with the disposal of waste. Since to date there is no adequate implementation of the comprehensive management plan for solid waste PGIR. Nor with a culture of separation, being received all types of waste, including hazardous in the same place.

Possible solution

From our homes raise awareness that there are chemical products that we should stop using so that the water does not continue to pollute, not throw garbage or waste that helps to deteriorate it, in order to have a better care and cleanliness of our waters in Barrancabermeja.

Typical food of my country
